republic, n. A system of government in which the people hold sovereign power and elect representatives who exercise that power. • It contrasts on the one hand with
a pure democracy, in which the people or community as an organized whole wield the sovereign power of government, and on the other with the rule of one person
(such as a king or dictator) or of an elite group (such as an oligarchy, aristocracy, or junta). -- Abbr. rep. Cf. DEMOCRACY. -- republican, adj.
Quote
"A republic is a government which (a) derives all of its powers directly or indirectly from the great body of the people and (b) is administered by persons holding their
office during pleasure, for a limited period, or during good behavior." Robert A. Dahl, A Preface to Democratic Theory 10 (1956).

What is the truth, let me say Harry Atwood’s definition is plain and easy to see the difference.
I am not going to quote the whole preface in Harry’s book first’s © 1913 of "OUR REPUBLIC" but here is my best pick from it.
A study in forms of government demonstrating the truth of the following proposition:
Failures: Autocracy= The extreme.
Failures: Democracy= The other extreme.
Success: Republic= The Golden mean.= The Standard form.
The Purpose of the book is:
1. To make clear the meaning of the words “autocracy” “democracy” “republic;”
2. To encourage a more accurate use of governmental terms, and
3. To urge the importance of avoiding the dangers of the extremes of both autocracy and democracy, and the vital need of adhering strictly and literally to the
fundamentals of the republic, which is the golden mean between autocracy and democracy.
A republic gives the people a right to petition and that the people may be one person making the one of the people have the same rights as the people.
Mr. Atwood's prediction is very worthy of praise and gratitude, it is sad that it goes unheard and or promoted in this land of the people.
Mr. Atwood had the Constitution Association for the Society of the people, I here ask that this prediction be heard and taught. I propose to begin the association Mr.
Atwood worked with for 32 years, most likely without support from the government since he would be a hypocrite by asking congress to promote this form of training.
To carry on Mr. Atwood’s effort to reform the existing government of his day and mine, and I can say this beast has itself grown until it feels as if it is one of the
people.
I need time to study and train the people with free seminars using the book of Mr. Atwood and several free thinking instructors and speakers to convey their
understanding of the points mentioned above and the new found issues facing us today, that Mr. Atwood did not see.
If we the people, find ourselves supporting the politics which belongs to the people in the United States we must hold conferences and seminars. This alone should
be a strong topic to blast across the media, but donations will be needed to train. Infomercial may bring the needed education, but a huge audience donation thru
advertising will be needed. A paid mail advertisement from a top notch advertising agency could be used for drawing support.
I'll await the people's reply for the support of the people learning that the ownership of the government is within reach of the people in the land known now as the
United States.
I cannot let the definitions as they are given and used for our republic go without being presented to the people.
I thank you for taking the time to read this and the consideration to support this national circuit of knowledge.
Mr. Harry Atwood said "the three words uppermost in the minds of people throughout all the world" (I've added) today is democracy that is in a republic.
What do you mean when you use the word autocracy?
What do you mean when you use the word democracy?
What would you mean when you use the word republic?
Write down your own definitions of those three words, stop the first one hundred people you meet and ask each of them.
This is what I would like to do, ask 1000 people in 30 of the largest cities in the U.S.
Compiled their replies, a compilation that would win a prize in a museum of curiosities.
All would be like to journey to the National Capital, in beginning with the president, as the hundred men who are most prominently identified with the national
government to three questions, you would have material for a scrapbook their reading of which would be confusing to the mind.
I would also like to visit the state capitals, and asking what the governor, and the most prominently identified with the state government and each commonwealth the
same three questions, and have their replies compiled, you'll have a volume of interesting contradictions.
The purpose of this education would be to make clear the meaning of the words of autocracy, democracy and republic:
To encourage a more accurate use of the governmental terms by paying for media time and holding seminars.
To urge the importance of avoiding the dangers of the extremes of both of the autocracy and democracy and the vital need of adhering strictly and literally to the
fundamentals of the Republic, which is a golden mean between autocracy and democracy.
Organization is the best method whereby a concentration of thought, single as a purpose in unity, to use the action, may be secured for the accomplishments of the
desired results.
